Carers SA Welcomes New CEO

The Carers SA Board of Management is pleased to announce the appointment of Julia Overton as the organisation’s new Chief Executive Officer, following an extensive recruitment process.

Carers SA Board President, Tony Simmons, highlighted Ms Overton’s vast leadership experience and its value to the organisation.

“This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Carers SA, and the Board and Executive Leadership Team, are looking forward to working with Julia to build on our strong history of advocacy and provision of quality supports and services for South Australian Carers for more than 30 years’, Mr Simmons said.

“Julia’s experience spanning across three decades in public health and the community services sector will be invaluable. After many years of stable leadership, we are incredibly fortunate to have found someone with the right experience and values to lead us into the future as we continue to evolve as an organisation and respond to the needs of South Australian Carers”.

Ms Overton is currently a Lecturer at Torrens University Australia, having held prior roles in a variety of Executive and leadership positions including as CEO at the Health Consumers Alliance of South Australia. Ms Overton also possesses an extensive academic background and shares a strong passion and commitment to engaging with Carers, consumers, communities and partners to implement solutions that improve health outcomes and wellbeing.

On accepting the role, Ms Overton says “ I am excited to join an organisation with a rich history of supporting Carers and making a real difference in their lives. I look forward to working closely with the team to build on the incredible work already achieved and to continue delivering impactful outcomes for Carers across our community.”

Ms Overton will commence at Carers SA on 6th January 2025 and will take over the role from long-serving CEO David Militz, after more than a decade at the helm.
